Escalante, UT
Escalante is located along Scenic Byway 12 in the South-Central part of the state. With just around 850 population, it offers dark skies, clear air, and an incredibly quiet and peaceful setting. It’s named after Silvestre Vélez de Escalante, a Franciscan missionary and a member of the first European expedition into southern Utah. The closest big city is Cedar City or Richfield, about 2 hours away.

With one million acres of playground, the GSENM is home to numerous Slot Canyons, the Escalante River, Hole in the Rock Road, and Calf Creek State Park. It’s rugged landscape bring people from all over the world to explore, along with incredible biological resources. This unspoiled and vast area has countless recreational opportunities for quiet solitude, photography, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, and off-raod exploration.
St. George, UT
Situated in the Southwestern corner of the State of Utah – St George is a beautiful and growing City. Close to Zion Nat’l Park, and in the middle of Sand Hollow State Park and Snow Canyon State Park, this charming town has Museums, parks, nightlife, and tons of outdoor recreation. Winters are mild, summers are hot, but overall this town is growing dramatically as it’s well known for it’s scenery and hub of activity.

Escalante is surrounded by the mountains, cliffs, flats, washes and sandstone canyons of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM) and the Dixie National Forest. It is about 50 miles east of Bryce Canyon National Park and 75 miles south of Capitol Reef National Park. The town of Escalante features quaint pioneer homes, along with some new construction, and vacation homes. The climate in Escalante is mild and arid with annual rainfall averaging about 10 inches. Summer time highs are mid 90’s with thunderstorms typical and cooler evenings. Flash floods can happen quickly, so it’s best to be prepared for all types of weather in the summer. Winters are much milder than most of the Northern part of the state. Temperatures average in the 25-40 degree range, with about 28 inches of snow from about November to March.
A medical clinic with a pharmacy is on the East part of town, along with a part-time dental facility. Elevation is 5700 feet, with clean air, and definitily a remote feeling as it was one of the last areas to be mapped in the U.S. Escalante has a wonderful small town community feeling that keep residents enjoying their slow pace life, along with the beauty and recreation that brings the tourists from all over the world.
